How was the process of moving from Italy to the Netherlands?
The Process was a big challenge because in one month I totally changed my life. I started to live by my own in a new country with different culture. Lucky I found a lot of people who helped me a lot.
Was it easy to find a place to live and to arrange everything (like a social security number, health insurance, etc)?
Finding the living place it was the hardest part but finally I succeeded. Apply for BSN, Health Insurance or Open a Bank Account it is not easy but you need to get into the Dutch System. Everything is explained but sometimes just in Dutch. The easiest thing that you can do is always to make a phone call because the customer services work very good. Finally I was able to manage everything and also to buy a car.
Do you feel at home in the Netherlands and especially in the city of Eindhoven?
I live in Eindhoven for over one year now, but I still have to get used to the differences in culture. Unfortunately I do not speak Dutch yet and so I make mainly friendship with people from abroad. My advice is to start a Dutch course as soon as possible.
What activities do you like the most in the region of Eindhoven?
My favorite activity is to be a Basketball Referee. I was a National Referee in Italy and now I’m doing here as well. Basketball is not a big business in Netherlands but it is a good way to make friendship with people.
What still suprises you about “the Dutch people” and/or the Netherlands?
After one year I’m still surprised about the Dutch. Do you want a stupid example? Dutch people (especially men) do not use the hair dryer 🙂
What tips or advice would you give someone who’s relocating to the Netherlands?
My best advice is to try, because if you do not know you will never know!!!!
